This is a fascinating and easy-to-read sequel book to his first book, Biblical Psychology for End-Time Believers: Human Nature Revealed by God in Scripture. The author recommends reading this book first, or this may seem like a bridge floating in the air with no support towers.
With that said, Don Ott is a longtime teacher, preacher, and psychologist with many, many years of experience. He states to the contemporary church to, “reclaim mental health care as part of our historic heritage!” For those who might agree with this statement, he writes this sequel.
Appealing with his version of “TLC” (Talk, Listen & Compassion), he highlights 7 categories of individuals needing counsel. This book is far from comprehensive, as the author relates, there are many other categories of individuals with diverse needs. However, these 7 are the most common issues and the things that an age or group might be dealing with.
The seven categories are: Youth, Couples, Parents, Old Folks, the Anxious, the Despairing & the Grieving. Each chapter is brief and to the point, giving the Counsel of the Mind of Christ from the Bible. This is a wonderful way to counsel with wisdom, compassion, and point others to the Word of God, encouraging them to hear, listen, and live by those words of Christ.
This is a breakthrough book that comes highly recommended for those needing counsel in their relational spheres, as well as a book that should encourage pastors within local churches to bring back and “reclaim mental health care as part of our historic heritage.” A phenomenal book!
